Monday Blues – How to Beat Them

The Monday Blues

It’s Monday morning. Are you starting your week with the Monday blues?

Do you feel sluggish and dull? Do you suffer a lack of motivation and passion in yourself? If your answers to these two questions are “Yes”, then you might be experiencing the famous, yet unwanted, Monday blues.

“Monday blues” is a term that refers to the feeling of extreme stress, anxiety or sadness on the first day of the week. This state of mind is pretty standard as people know they will have to work at least for five days before they can have the weekend to themselves again. Needless to say, the productivity of someone feeling the blues on a Monday can take a hit.

I’m no stranger to the feeling. I’ve had negative emotions on many Mondays that have affected my daily and weekly goals. Over the years, however, I’ve found ways to rid myself of the negativity and stay motivated.

One of the many things I do is reread inspirational words from people I connect with, which helps me remind myself of my priorities and their level of importance to me. Here are three of my most favorite motivational quotes that might inspire you too:

NOW is the time. The Universe likes SPEED. Don’t delay, don’t second-guess, don’t doubt. When the opportunity or impulse is there…ACT! – Joe Vitale

You’re Better than This

When you have a strong gut feeling or a voice in the back of your mind constantly telling you something, it’s always best to listen and act right away.

Back when I was in Sweden, I was in the wrong place. I was a teenager who didn’t have the confidence that I could amount to anything my parents would be proud of. It felt as if I had already failed. I had the Monday blues every day. By default, I was on my way to becoming a lifelong alcoholic, a mistake or two away from prison or, worse, an early grave. I felt completely stuck.

At my lowest point, I heard a voice say, “You are better than this”. It got louder and more persistent. Soon after, I realized I would never be better unless I got out of there. I immediately purchased a plane ticket with the $2000 inheritance I received from my late grandfather, told my parents I was leaving for good and took off to Thailand. Had I not listened to the voices in my head then and acted impulsively, I might not have escaped the Monday blues and became the successful businessman that I am today.

I don’t advocate making hasty decisions, but I believe we should all be in touch with our inner selves, truly understand what we want, and do what we think is best for us. After all, no one understands us better than ourselves.

Create Opportunities

Don’t worry about failures. Worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try. – Jack Canfield

I used to see failures as setbacks. However, my perceptions of them have changed over the years. I believe each unsuccessful attempt is a learning opportunity that teaches us something that we did not initially know. Our next effort thus becomes better informed, and the chances of failure are minimized. In other words, each failure brings us a step closer to success.

I’ve also learned that failure is not as unfavorable as we make it out to be. If we shoot for the stars but only manage to reach the moon, we’ve still come 230,000 miles closer to our goal. We should learn to cut ourselves some slack every now and then and take pride in the progress we’ve made.

Instead of wondering, “What if I fail?” we should be asking ourselves, “What if I succeed?” It makes all the difference!

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. – Napoleon Hill

Harness the Power of Your Mind

The mind is a powerful tool. It is the birthplace of dreams and goals. It is where the revolutionary ideas that changed the course of history were conceived.

Each of us thinks differently, and it is, in fact, one of humanity’s strengths. Varied thoughts allow for the flourishing of different ideas. To turn those ideas into a reality, we naturally set goals. Ideas that might seem improbable or unrealistic to others will not be perceived in the same way to someone with a clear vision, a solid strategy, and an unwavering determination to achieve personal goals.

In my book “Homeless to Billionaire: The 18 Principles of Wealth Attraction and Creating Unlimited Opportunity”, I’ll reveal ways to eliminate negativity and be surrounded by positivity.
