We can all admit that we are all facing incredibly challenging times. This pandemic has changed our routines, thrown us all out of our comfort zones, and sparked waves of fear, uncertainty, grief, anger, and other powerful emotions in us all. The lack of control being experienced has many people feeling victimized and imprisoned by these circumstances.
But what if we told you that it doesn’t have to be that way? Would you believe that this is all in your mind?
As a living and breathing human being, you are bound to experience these emotions at some point in your life. But it’s important to note that while your feelings might make you feel bad for now, they won’t be like that forever. Circumstances change and one day you will feel better than before. For now, it’s time to take care of yourself and your mindset. If you are unable to change your circumstances, then change your mindset. Learning to shift your perspective and develop a positive attitude is a core skill for building a meaningful life. What we feel on the inside is reflected on the outside. The best way to change our outer reality is to focus on changing our inner reality.
Here’s our list of 8 things that you can do to help you with shifting your perspective and changing your mindset;
1. Look for positive friends
A negative social circle will act as an echo chamber for bad ideas. A positive social circle will also act as an echo chamber, but one that supports your dreams, so choose your friends carefully. Find people that share your values or values that you hope to embody. We are not suggesting that you cut out all your friends because they are going through difficult times. But to evaluate if they are empowering you or dragging you down.
2. Abstain from all “bad news”.
Politics, wars, murder, and crime all implant negative thoughts into our minds. Unfortunately, mainstream media focuses mainly on tragedy because it sells. Fortunately, we can choose to not consume this dish and avoid feeding our feelings of helplessness. We can’t change the bad things that are happening right now, so worrying about it and feeling bad is a waste of energy. If we put our energy into things that we can change and control right now, then we can effectively create positive change.
3. Consume positive media.
Positive media is content that aims to help and improve your life or the lives of others. Doesn’t that sound much better than following dreadful news stories? No one is going to panic and feel helpless when the focus is on caring, improving, sharing, and growing. If you immerse yourself in positive growth material every day, you will retrain your mind and teach it to view the world more positively, which will help change your circumstances and outer world.
4. Create a morning mindset routine.
A great way to start the day is by making a mental list of each thing we’re looking forward to; it creates a feeling of anticipation and excitement that creates momentum for the entire day. The way we start our day usually dictates how we will end the day. A good morning routine will lead to a harmonious and stress-free day.
5. Write an action plan.
In this part, we want you to look at the possibilities that you can change and then write an action plan to achieve these changes. It’s vital that you take action on this plan and not just write it out. Action will create growth. If you are not sure where to start then don’t worry too much, just focus on what you can do first. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s still a lesson and will help you progress in the grand scheme of things. The most important thing to remember is that it’s all about getting started and not about where you are going. So get started!
