If you’ve read my book “Homeless to Billionaire: The 18 Principles of Wealth Attraction and Creating Unlimited Opportunity”, you’ll know how much I value showing appreciation to those around us, whether it’s friends and family or employees. However, there’s one person who deserves the most of our gratitude but receives the least. Wondering who that is? It’s the person in the mirror looking right back at you.
Internalized Belief
Most of us have an internalized belief that we’re not good enough. We continuously see others’ accomplishments on social media and hear about them in our social circles, and eventually, we begin comparing ourselves and feeling inferior. We blame ourselves for making mistakes, forgetting that it’s human nature to err. We scrutinize our every move and think, “I shouldn’t have done that!” or “I could’ve done better!” We become our own biggest critic, even when there’s so much to be proud of.

As hard as it may be, it’s essential to appreciate ourselves every once in a while. We ought to be our own best friend because when we genuinely love and appreciate ourselves, our entire life improves. We will feel worthy of our dreams, even if we’ve made huge mistakes. We will acknowledge what we’re capable of and will stop relying on the approval of others. We will become the best version of ourselves.
3 Simple Ways
Here are 3 simple ways to learn to appreciate yourselves and your worth:
1. Love Yourself
It can be an odd feeling to show some self-love, as it is, more often than not, perceived as selfish or egotistical. Allow me to debunk a myth for you. Showing yourself love isn’t selfish nor egotistical. If anything, it shows a high level of regard for your happiness and well-being. Once you understand this and start loving yourself, self-appreciation will come naturally.
2. Have Some Time Alone
Taking time to be alone doesn’t mean you must be lonely. It merely says you are focusing on yourself, the one who should mean the most to you in this world.
I love nature. I love climbing mountains, and I love spending days in the wild, far away from civilization, unable to check my emails, or even make a phone call. Acknowledging that the world can survive without you for several days is the first step in being able to detach and focus inward. That’s how I reload myself with new energy and motivation and learn to love me and life itself.
3. Keep a Gratitude Journal

When you do something that you’re proud of, write it down in a journal and keep it within reach. Take it out and read about the accomplishments you should be celebrating when you feel dispirited.
When we’re feeling low, we tend to underestimate ourselves and our abilities. We remember all our mistakes and failures more readily than our achievements. We feel like we’re not good enough to be appreciated. When you have something tangible to remind you of your worth, you’ll always feel appreciated.
Whatever you do, don’t stop trying new things, setting challenging goals, and feeling a sense of accomplishment as you achieve them. Surround yourself with positivity, whether it’s the people you hang out with or the music you listen to. Reassure your spirit with self-affirmations. Most importantly, keep on believing in yourself!
